Time to Plant Peach Trees

These days few people really eat a fresh peach. Unless it's home grown, it's almost impossible to find a fruit that has the familiar aroma, great taste and is juicy enough to drip down your chin.

Peach Tree

If you have room for a small tree, you can enjoy fresh peaches. New trees are just arriving at local garden centers that are ready for planting.

Some of the best peach varieties for Central Florida include Flordaprince, Flordaglo, Tropic Beauty, Tropicsweet and Rayon. Follow these tips to pick your first peaches in about two years.

Plant new peach trees in sunny locations.

Cut the top out of the tree at planting to encourage low spreading branches.

Feed new trees every 6 to 8 weeks; trees one year and older in February, June and August.

Prune peach trees yearly to keep a compact open growth habit.

Spray as needed to control fruit damaging pests.
