Hurricane season arrives in a little over a month and with it the potential for tree damage due to associated winds. Actually many neighborhoods had a little warning of what could happen during recent storms. Some trees blew over and many limbs were lost. These winds weren't anything like hurricane force.

It's just a good idea to give your tree a check up to spot dangerous portions. Trees near the home and over driveways should be of major concern. Also older trees are always suspect.

Here are a few things to looks for when checking for hazardous trees:

Check for wounds that may go deep into the tree and indicate weaker tree portions.
Try to spot dead or declining limbs that should be removed.
Look for bleeding wounds that may indicate disease or insect infested portions.
Look for squirrel holes in the trunks near the ground that indicate the trunk is rotting.

Any of the above symptoms are indications your tree may be weakened and not able to resist the severe storms. If you have any questions seek the advise of a certified consulting arborist who hopefully can help save your tree before the storms arrive.
